Just a little over an hour by train from Helsinki and you're in Kouvola! You can experience pristine Finnish nature and discover the city’s interesting industrial history in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kouvola is also full of different activities and sights for families.
UNESCO World Heritage Site Verla is one of Finland’s seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites. History comes to life in Verla and milieu of the museum is a sight to behold.
Located close by to Verla, you’ll find Repovesi National Park, which is one of the most popular nature destinations in Southern Finland. It boasts beautiful, rugged landscapes, enchanting hiking trails and various activities. Along the trails there are campfire sites where you can camp out or make a pot of coffee. There are also some cottages to rent. As well as hiking, you can swim, canoe, ski, cycle, cook or snowshoe in Repovesi National Park, which is open all year round.
Tykkimäki Amusement Park is the third largest amusement park in Finland. In addition to wild rides Tykkimäki has a plenty of activities for smaller children.
Just a short walk from Tykkimäki Amusement Park and you are in Käyrälampi. The newly renovated area provides experiences year around. You can try different activities, relax in a public sauna or spend the night in cozy glamping tent or in a cottage or villa.
Arboretum Mustila is the oldest and largest tree park in Northern Europe. Arboretum Mustila is especially famous for its rhododendrons and azaleas. Rhododendron Valley is only a small part of the 120-hectare tree park, which is dominated by evergreen conifers with hemlock, giant fir and purple conifer woodland. The arboretum is home to more than 250 species of trees. You can also enjoy a variety of local products and café treats in the Mustila area.
Along the Kymi River you’ll find Ankkapurha Culture Park. In Ankkapurha you'll find industrial history and plenty of activities. You can also enjoy the buildings and works of the famous Alvar Aalto.
