Finlandia Hall
Finlandia Hall is one of Helsinki’s most iconic architectural landmarks.
Designed by Alvar Aalto, the building was completed in 1971 and stands in a central location by Töölönlahti Bay.
The white Carrara marble façade, contrasted by dark granite, makes Finlandia Hall one of the most striking buildings in the city. The architecture draws inspiration from European cultural heritage, with echoes of Venetian palaces built along the water’s edge.
Inside, the building features many of Aalto’s signature elements: asymmetrical forms, natural materials, and a carefully considered spatial rhythm. White marble is also used in staircases, the concert hall, and foyers – spaces inspired by classical architecture from Italy and Greece.
Architecture, natural light, the surrounding park, and Töölönlahti Bay all interact to create a unified, harmonious spatial experience.
Finlandia Hall is truly a must-see destination – both inside and out.
The building is open to the public almost year-round, and access to the main public areas is free of charge.
The newly opened Finlandia Exhibition presents the lasting legacy of Alvar Aalto, Aino Aalto, and Elissa Aalto, and their significant contribution to the history of Finnish design. The exhibition is a permanent part of the building’s public spaces and adds a meaningful dimension to any visit.
Please note that admission to the exhibition requires a ticket. More information available on the website!
