Kurikan Lakkitehdas designed by Aarne Ervi and Factory Museum

Kurikan Lakkitehdas

Today, in the Kurikan Lakkitehdas area, which is classified as a nationally significant cultural environment, the past and the traces of history can still be clearly felt thanks to the comparatively well-preserved environment and buildings. In addition to the factory buildings completed in 1913 and 1924, the area also includes a magnificent functionalist building designed by architect Aarne Ervi in 1938, which is one of his first works under the name of his own design office. The restoration and renovation of this architecturally very interesting building for new business activities (including a brewery and banquet facilities) has begun in 2022 with the change of ownership of the factory area.

Museum

The Kurikan Lakkitehdas museum section is located on the first floor of the building designed by architect Aarne Ervi, right next to the entrance. The museum section displays donated products, including hats, photographs, stories about the factory, etc. etc. from the times of both the Kurikan Lakkitehdas Factory and Isohella. The section also displays finds made at the factory. The museum section is a permanent project and is constantly expanding/changing with new finds and donations. Among other things, there will be a tablet from which visitors can independently browse the compiled folders according to their own interests (including building history, hat factory operations during the wars, personal history, etc.). Admission to the museum section is free, and it is open during the Kurikan Lakkitehdas's opening hours and during private events.
