Saint Henry’s Chapel

The Preaching Room of Saint Henry’s Chapel is the oldest surviving wooden building in Finland. According to folklore, it served during the Middle Ages as a preaching room for Finland’s national saint, Bishop Henry. During the Catholic era, the preaching room was an important pilgrimage site, believed to possess miraculous powers. The octagonal chapel built to shelter the preaching room was consecrated in June 1857.
