Scenic Cruises from Mikkeli Harbour

The cruise departs from Mikkeli Harbour. The ship travels along the urban shoreline of Launiala and on the opposite shore there is a historical Kenkävero parsonage. Then ship passes the Pursiala power plant, which has a low carbon footprint thanks to its use of local wood as fuel. Peeking out from behind the trees on the opposite shore, at the top of the cliff, is the 19th-century Lamposaari pavilion. The ship then heads south to the Annilanselkä bay. The shores of this area are lined with villas, waterfront houses and artificial monuments from the 2017 Mikkeli Housing Fair.

The ship continues its journey through the Surmansalmi strait, which name dates back to the 18th-century military history and the battles of Porrassalmi. After the strait ship continues it’s journey to the Kyyhkylänselkä bay which chores helds signs of Finland’s rich cottage culture with its beach saunas.

As the ship enters the Siikasalmi Channel, it is interesting to note that before the industrial era small wooden ferries were used in the places like that for traffic instead of the strong concrete bridges we have nowadays. The ship then turns around and heads back to the harbour, giving passengers the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery once more.
